Theater Workshop
Posted by renema on April 17, 2008
As a result of the EPF regional meeting in Enschede in October last year, the Rino Foundation will be organizing a workshop on theatrical techniques. The workshop will take place on May 20th, in the FOM Rijnhuizen institute for Plasma Physics in Nieuwegein. This theatrical training is a unique chance for participants to improve their presentation skills and learn new techniques for interacting with the audience.
Pandemonia Science Theater produces scientificaly-themed plays and reaches about 100.000 people per year. Furthermore, they organize science communication training sessions for companies, scientists and museums.
The workshop will be given in Dutch. Registration for the workshop costs E30 per person, and must be done before May 10th. Please send all registrations to theaterworkshop@stichtingrino.nl

CERN open days
Posted by drsh on April 10, 2008
On April 5 and 6, the CERN open days took place. The last opportunity to pay a visit to the tunnel in which the LHC is housed was taken by over 70,000 people. During the open days, four physics shows from the EPF network have been performing their shows. The shows, Cirkus Naturligvis from Copenhagen; the Physics Show from Aarhus; Fizika Ekspres from Zagreb; and the Rino Foundation from Leiden, were placed at different entry points of the LHC.

For enhancing the exchange between physics shows, performers from the different shows not only visited, but actually performed experiments at the stands from the other shows present.

At Show Physics 2008
Posted by renema on April 10, 2008
Its currently the morning of day three of the Show Physics 2008 conference, and so far it’s been a huge success. On the first day, we had a very interesting lecture by Peter Rebernik on the activities of EUSCEA, specifically on the the Wonders program. Furthermore, we had several lectures by the participating physics show groups, which are always great because we get to hear about what it is that the participants are doing.
On the second day, we had lectures with a more reflective tone, about misconceptions in physics, pseudoscience and the public perception of physics. Especially the lecture by Ursula Kessels, about the public perception of physics and the stereotypes which play a great role in this, was very interesting. In the afternoon, we went for a boat trip on the local river, on an old reconstructed Hanseatic trading barge.
